Simply Vela Candle Co. creates candles and wax melts that are vegan friendly, cruelty-free, phthalate-free and paraffin-free. We only use natural soy wax from soybeans that are grown in the USA. We strive to keep candles simple, with clean ingredients.

Soy candles are made from soy wax.
Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. The hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated.
More than 80% of soybeans are cultivated in the upper Midwest.
Simply Vela Candle Co. only uses natural soy wax from soybeans grown in the United States.
- Natural: Soy wax is made from soybeans. Our all-natural soy wax is grown in the USA.
- Cleaner Burn: Soy wax is non-toxic, unlike its petroleum-based competitor, paraffin wax. Soy wax also gives off substantially less soot (the black smokey substance that comes from burning a candle). Candle users often report of headaches while burning paraffin candles (due to the toxins within the candle).
- Longer Burn: All-natural soy candles last longer than a paraffin candle of the same size. Soy wax is denser; this means it takes more heat to melt the wax, meaning that the candle takes longer to burn through.
- Environmentally Friendly: All- natural soy wax is made from renewable resources and it burns much cleaner and purer as it is all natural, non-toxic, and non-hazardous. Soy wax is biodegradable leading to reduced landfills.
- Better Scent: Candle scent is given off when the wax is melted. Since a soy wax candle takes longer to burn, the scent is gradually released. There is not an instant, overpowering scent. Most people prefer the gradual released scent to the instantly strong scent.
Simply Vela utilizes only the highest quality, phthalate-free fragrance oils in our candles and wax melts. The fragrances used at Simply Vela under go testing to deem they are safe and free from toxins.
Though some people are looking for candles or wax melts with essential oils, recent studies have shown that essential oils become toxic when burned therefore Simply Vela does not use essential oils in our products.
Please keep your essential oils to non-heated uses such as diffusers and soaps.
Simply Vela wax melts are a beautiful and easy, flame-free alternative to candles, oil diffusers, plug-ins, and other home fragrance products. Our wax melts should be placed in a wax warmer (either an electric warmer or a tealight warmer, which is our preferred method due to the higher fragrance release they provide), and warmed with a tealight or light bulb located inside. Once the wax begins to melt, your room will be filled with fragrance.
Phthalate is a chemical used in cheap fragrance oils. You can not smell or taste it, which makes it unnoticeable in items such as candles.
There has been little research on phthalates but what we do know is phthalates, a family of industrial chemicals used to soften polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic and as solvents in cosmetics and other consumer products, can damage the liver, kidneys, lungs, and reproductive system. Some research says not all phthalates are bad, however at Simply Vela, we choose to avoid phthalates altogether.
Our wicks are made of flat braided cotton with paper threads woven into the cotton. The reinforced construction of the wick is designed to ensure a consistent burn with higher fragrance loads.
Our wicks are lead and zinc free.
Note: Any carbon buildup should be removed once the wick is extinguished.
You should trim the wick before each burn.
Trim the wick to ¼ to a ½ inch. Too small of a trim could cause a smaller melt pool, and too large of a trim could burn through your candle faster causing 'tunneling'.
Too large of a trim could also cause your candle to “dance”. If this happens, blow out the candle, trim the wick to proper size, and relight.
Burn times will always vary depending on the placement of your candle. Drafty areas will burn slightly quicker. Burn times will also vary depending on the height of your wick. The longer the wick, the quicker the candle will burn.
You can extend your candles burn time by burning the candles long enough to allow the wax pool to reach the edge (approx. 2-3 hours).
If you do not allow them to burn all the way to the edge of the container when you first burn them, they will begin to tunnel down into the wax instead of melting all the way to the edges.
As long as you keep your wicks trimmed, our 7 oz. candles offer an approximate 40-55+ hours of burn time and our Petite candles offer an approximate 20-25+ hours of burn time.
Remember to only burn your candles for a 4 hour period at a time. Never allow your candle to burn for an extended period of time as this can cause the glass to overheat and cause a possible explosion of the container.
Make sure your candle size and type is appropriate for the room you plan on putting it in.
Your candle size should mimic the size of the room. Large candles (12-16 oz. or higher) with two or three wicks are appropriate for a large-sized room, such as a large kitchen or dining room. Medium candles (7-10 oz.) with one wick are appropriate for a medium-sized room, such as a bedroom or medium sized kitchen. Small candles (2-6 oz.) are only capable of scenting a small room, such as a small bedroom, bathroom or entryway.
For Simply Vela wax melts, we load our melts with the highest amount of fragrance oil possible because we want our melts to last longer and travel further. For a stronger scent throw, you can use 3-4 melts at a time in your warmer or if you prefer a lighter scent, you can start with 2-3 melts. Fragrance throw also greatly depends on the type of warmer you are using. At Simply Vela, we prefer tealight fragrance warmers as they provide a greater fragrance release versus electric warmers.
Since soy wax has a lower melting point, it can release excess fragrance oils, known as "sweating" (this is due to extreme temperature changes due to shipping - i.e. going from hot trucks to an air-conditioned environment or going from cold trucks in the winter to heated homes). If you notice your candle "sweating" simply wipe it out with a tissue or paper towel. Sweat from soy candles does not affect the burn quality and generally the sweat drops will not re-appear after your first burn.
For optimum performance of soy candles, please store in a cool area out of in-direct and direct sunlight.

At Simply Vela Candle Co., we take great pride in creating gorgeous candles and wax melts, that not only provide excellent fragrance for your space but that are also safe to use. Every single one of our products under go extensive testing to ensure they are safe and perform as expected, and only when our products pass these safety tests, are they released for purchase.
Dough Bowl candles are just as safe as a candle made in a glass vessel. As with all candles, care must be taken to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience. We always recommend that you abide by the federal warnings/burning instructions that are listed on the sticker that is attached to each and every one of our candles. Additionally, please note, the melt pool on your dough bowl candles may not reach all the way to the edge of the bowl; this is totally normal and is a safety precaution.
You can reuse your bowl for decorations or you can participate in our refill program and enjoy your candle all over again.
If you choose to repurpose your dough bowl as home décor, simply follow the below cleaning instructions:
- Grab a blow dryer (or heat gun if you happen to have one) and a trash can.
- While holding your dough bowl over the trash can, use the blow dry to heat up any remaining wax in the bowl. Pour the melted wax into the trash. Remember, though soy wax is water soluble (which makes for easy clean up!), it is still wax. Never put wax down any sinks.
- Once you've removed as much of the leftover wax as possible, allow the wick tab to cool for a moment, then carefully remove it. Please note, we use a pretty strong adhesive to ensure our wicks do not loosen during use (we don't want those baby's going anywhere), so it may take some extra work to remove the wick tab. You can use your nails, a staple remover or anything you need to pop the wick off.
- Once you've removed the wick, use a shop towel or clean rag with some isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the interior of your bowl. You may need/want to use the blow dryer one more time, to ensure you've removed any residual wax.

Shipping Update August 2020
Due to COVID-19 and the uncertainty surrounding the USPS at this time, we cannot guarantee that Priority Mail will arrive within its usual time frame (1-3 days). We are looking at alternatives to get orders out and delivered as quickly as we can, while striving to keep costs as affordable as possible for both our customers and our company.
Please keep these delays in mind when ordering and refer to the tracking information provided in your shipping confirmation.

Shipping during the Summer Months
Due to the characteristics of soy wax and the heat of the summer months, to ensure your candles arrive to you as intended, orders will only be shipped on Mondays and Tuesdays during the summer.
Contact-less Pickup for our local Columbus, Ohio customers is available on most Saturdays. Please contact us to make pickup arrangements.
We strive to process our orders within 2-3 business days. If there is a significant delay, it will be posted on our main page.

Shipment Confirmation & Order Tracking
You will receive a Shipment Confirmation email once your order has shipped containing your tracking number(s). The tracking number will be active within 24 hours. Once the order has shipped, Simply Vela Candle Co. can no longer be held liable for orders that might not arrive within the expected timeframe. Shipping delays are especially prevalent during the holiday season, please plan your orders accordingly.

Free contactless pickup is available for local customers. We ask that you contact us to make pickup arrangements once you receive your pickup confirmation via email.
Orders must be picked up within 30 days of notification. If your order is not picked up within 30 days, we will send an invoice for the $9.50 Flat Rate Shipping Fee, once paid we will ship your order. If orders have not been picked up or the shipping fee paid within 60 days, product will be returned to inventory. We are unable to provide refunds for orders that were not picked up in the noted timeframe.

IMPORTANT: Please keep all packaging (including all "inside" packaging). We will ask for images of the damages and the packaging. Without proof of damage, we will not be able to exchange the item. Damaged items must be reported within 3 business days of delivery.
Once damaged orders are confirmed and validated, you will receive a gift card via email for the cost of what was paid, for future use in our shop.

Once the order has shipped, Simply Vela Candle Co. can no longer be held liable however if your item does appear lost or stolen, complete and submit the form below and we will do everything we can to assist you in locating it.
Orders may be cancelled prior to shipment. Once an order has been shipped, it may not be cancelled.
If you are unhappy with your order, we would be happy to exchange it and issue a gift card via email for future use in our shop. The candle must arrive to our shop unused and not damaged, photos are required prior to initiating an exchange.
Wholesale & Bulk orders may not be cancelled or exchanged. All sales are final.
Simply Vela is a small business and as such, we will not be able to cover the shipping cost for exchanges.
If you are exchanging a candle, and it arrives to our shop broken or damaged, we will not be able to issue a gift card for the returned candle. We highly recommend packaging the candle as it was received and insuring the shipment. USPS (local post office) has low cost priority mail (2-3 business days) which includes free insurance up to $100.
Exchanges exclude items that were on sale, limited edition, discontinued or customized.
If you would like an exchange, please notify us within 5 calendar days of your delivery.
As a small business, we are unable to have candles returned for a refund.

We are the sole owners of the information collected on this site. We only have access to and collect information that you have voluntarily provided. We will not sell or rent this information to anyone. Your privacy is our policy.
We will us your information to respond to you, regarding the reason you contacted us. We will not share your information with any third party outside of Simply Vela , other than as necessary to fulfill your order(s).

STATE AND LOCAL SALES TAXES
In accordance with applicable state and local laws, we are required to charge sales tax in localities where Simply Vela Candle Co. LLC. has operations. Simply Vela Candle Co. LLC. does not benefit from the collection of sales tax and we remit all taxes collected directly to the appropriate taxing jurisdiction.
As a general rule, it is the laws of the state of delivery that determine whether sales tax will be due on your transaction.
The terms contained herein are subject to change as the taxation of online transactions is continually evolving. Simply Vela Candle Co. LLC strives to comply with state and local tax laws as they exist currently and continues to monitor and update its taxation policies as those laws change.

Orders shipped to OH will have all applicable state and local sales tax added to your total order, and to related shipping and handling charges where appropriate.

Simply Vela Candle Co. LLC. does not collect sales or use tax in all states. For states imposing sales or use taxes, your purchase may be subject to use tax unless it is specifically exempt from taxation. Your purchase is not exempt merely because it is made over the Internet or by other remote means. Many states require purchasers to file a sales/use tax return at the end of the year, reporting all of the taxable purchases that were not taxed, and to pay the tax on those purchases.
You may have a tax obligation in states where Simply Vela Candle Co. LLC. does not collect sales tax. Details of how to report these taxes may be found at the websites of your respective taxing jurisdictions.
We do not charge sales tax on the purchase of Gift Certificates; however, items paid for with Gift Certificates will be taxed if shipped to addresses in the states or regions mentioned above.

You cannot retroactively earn points on purchases made before joining the Vela Points program.
Simply log in to your account, and click on the launcher at the bottom of your screen.
You can easily see which rewards you've already redeemed by signing into your account and clicking on the rewards launcher at the bottom of the screen.
Once the Panel has loaded, you can click on Your rewards.
The Your rewards card will show you a complete list of the rewards you've earned and redeemed through the Vela Points program.
You can click on the launcher at the bottom of the screen to copy your referral URL to share with your friends and family.
All points earned from your purchase will be deducted from your account.
Simply log into your account, then click on the rewards launcher to open your rewards panel. Next, click on All rewards.
If you don't have enough points to redeem, you'll see a progress bar on the right, next to the reward name.
If you do have enough points, there will be a Redeem button. Once you click redeem, you will be taken to a page that shows the coupon code with a button to Apply Code which will automatically apply that coupon code to your checkout.
To redeem points on variable rewards, you will need to use the points slider to select the amount of points you would like to spend, then click Redeem.
If you do not wish to use your coupon code immediately you will get an email with the coupon code for your records. The code will also be stored in your rewards panel under the Your Rewards section at the bottom.
Once you have redeemed your points for a reward, the reward will remain in your account until you decide to use it on a purchase. Points are not automatically returned to your account if a reward is redeemed and not used.
